Support when using the Library

Reserving and collecting books

We understand that finding the books on the shelf may not be easy for people with visual or mobility issues so library staff are happy to fetch any books off the shelf for you: please ask at the enquiries desk for this service.

You can also reserve any items on the shelves and we'll pick them for you to collect from the reservations area.

If your disability prevents you from coming to the library easily, we can make arrangements for your books to be collected by a friend or colleague or posted out to you. Please contact us to discuss this option.

Library Access

Library Access

Parking

Approach routes to the library have drop down kerbs and flat, well-lit paths. There are two parking bays within 50 metres of the Library for Blue badge holders and further parking within 200 metres on campus.

Building Access

Entrance to the library is via automatic external doors and wheelchair accessible entry control gates. Entry is with a University or Library card and library staff are on hand to assist with any access issues.

Accessible Toilets

Disabled toilet facilities are available on every floor.

Lifts

The Library has two internal lifts that service all four floors and there are level thresholds throughout the building.

The lifts will not work in the event of an emergency but there are designated refuges, phones, evacuation chairs and trained staff to assist.

Accessible technology

Assistive Technology

The Library has adjustable height tables with computer access and low level short-stay computers.

The University provides a variety of assistive software which is available on Library computers and laptops if requested by the Student Wellbeing Centre.
