An Introduction to Academic Practice: Plagiarism

An introduction

Plagiarism is trying to pass other people’s ideas off as your own. This is a serious academic offence and can result in failing an assignment or the entire course.

Credit your sources to avoid plagiarism

There are steps you can take to avoid plagiarism, for example, it is essential to credit the original author and correctly reference the sources of information you have used.

You will need to provide a list of reference materials at the end of your essay which includes the full publication details of all the materials you have used.

Always include a reference in your text whenever you use someone’s ideas or quote directly from another source.
