Diversify Your Library

Historically, white, male, middle- and upper-class voices of the Global North have been privileged in publishing.

The aim of this guide is for you to:

  • explore diverse resources and
  • think about the wide range of voices and materials that can be used during your studies.

We would like to focus on ensuring that many voices and perspectives are heard by buying materials created by, and about, marginalised people.  This can be in relation to race, ethnicity, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation and socioeconomic class. We will be taking an intersectional approach which considers the many parts of a person's identity.

Recommend a resource

We would like YOU to highlight texts that will help us diversify our collections and be more representative of marginalised voices.

The Library welcomes your suggestions for books and other materials to make your Library more diverse. Resources can be:

  • fiction or non-fiction
  • focus on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, physical ability, socioeconomic class,
  • or anything else that shapes our community.

Suggestions for resources for general interest can be made anonymously if you prefer.
