Yes! You can now use the Library as a study space - this includes the PCs and individual study carrels on all floors, but not the group study rooms.

What changes have we made to keep you safe?

The safety of staff and students is our primary concern, and we have given careful consideration to all aspects of using the library in the new climate.

  • All visitors to the library are asked to wear a face covering.
  • Our cleaning processes have been enhanced in order to maintain a clean and safe environment for all our users.
  • Appropriate anti-bacterial wipes are available for students wishing to clean shared computer workstations prior to use. These are located on the entrance to each floor.
  • All areas have been carefully marked and signposted to emphasise the new rules.
  • Study spaces on all floors have been spaced out to ensure that they comply with social distancing guidelines.

Yes, we ask that all users wear a face covering for the duration of their stay in the Library.

How do I take books out?

Books can be taken out in two ways:

  • In person - you are now welcome to browse the shelves and take books out using the self-service machines on the ground floor of the library.
  • Alternatively, you can reserve your books online and collect them from the Freezone area, located just inside the entrance of the Library. To reserve your books, please search for the resource that you need and select 'Reserve Item.' We will then collect this item for you and place it on the reservation shelf ready for collection. You will receive an email notification when the item/s are ready. These reservations can be self-issued using the self-service machine inside the Freezone. You can reserve up to four items at any one time, and once those reservations have been satisfied you are welcome to request a further four items.  **If you are a distance learner, please follow the same process as above and we will automatically post your books to you.
  • If you are clinically extremely vulnerable, we will post books to you. Please reserve the items as normal and then email library@lincoln.ac.uk to inform us that you require the postal service.

Can I browse the shelves?

You can browse the shelves for books to use whilst studying in the library or to take out.

How do I return books?

Books should be placed on one of the clearly labelled trolleys in the Freezone area of the Library - this is located in the entrance to the library, on the left hand side. A staff member will collect the books and place them in a quarantine area, where they will remain for 72 hours. After the quarantine period, the books will then be removed from your account. Any charges that have been incurred during this period will be removed.

What should I do with the books that I have used whilst studying but haven't borrowed?

Please place any items that you have used whilst studying on a quarantine trolley - these are located next to the staircase exit doors on every floor. They will then be quarantined for 72 hours before being returned to the shelves.
