Music Journals

You can access journals in 3 main ways:-

  1. Browsing journals by subject on Browzine

good for seeing what ejournals are available in specific subject and topic areas i.e. a good starting place

  2. Search for journals on Electronic Journals A-Z

good for seeing what access we have to ejournals, including which years are covered i.e. if you are looking for a specific article from a certain year, you can check if we have access to it here

  3. Search for articles on Library search

good for searching for specific article titles or searching by keyword to see what research is out there i.e. great for more detailed, advanced searching - I have made a separate video on how to use the Advanced Search.

The video below gives you an introduction to journals, what they are, how they are organised and a step-by-step on how to find them.

Why are journals important?

Journals are regular scholarly publications which contain articles on specific subjects.

They are important in academic research for a number of reasons:

they are the main forum by which research is published,

they can explore a narrow topic in depth,

they contain current or recent research findings,

they are often peer-reviewed so that research findings are checked by other subject experts.
