Placement support

When out on placement as well as continuing to use the resources and support offered by the libraries at the University of Lincoln, there may also be opportunities to access other libraries. 

Placements with NHS Trusts in Lincolnshire

Joining the library

  • Whilst on placement at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) you can join their Library.
  • You will need to complete a membership form which can be completed in person at one of our sites or online here.
  • Please make sure that you complete the sections at the bottom of the form that relate to placement students.

Books

  • The majority of books are held at the libraries at Grantham and Pilgrim Hospitals, we also have a small selection at Lincoln Hospital. Reserved books will be sent to your preferred library for collection.
  • Please view the catalogue to see what books are available to borrow. You can also use the catalogue to reserve and renew items. Most books are 6 week loans and are auto renewed 5 times as long as they are not reserved. 
  • Students can borrow up to 16 items at any one time. 

Books are available for loan during your placement dates only.

WiFi

  • WiFi is available on the hospital sites through NHSWIFI.

Sites and Computer Access

  • If your placement is with ULHT the libraries are open 24/7 to students that have a staff ID badge. LCHS and LPFT placement students please contact the library services to find out how to access the sites clinical.librar@ulh.nhs.uk.
  • Computers are available at all the library sites. You don’t need to book – just turn up and use. 
  • Access to computers requires a Trust username and password. Please contact your placement supervisor to obtain these.

Printing and Photocopying

  • Printing and photocopying facilities are available at all library sites. The cost is 5p per side of A4.

NHS OpenAthens

  • You can set up a NHS OpenAthens account for the duration of your placement. This gives access to a range of online journals and resources such as BMJ Best Practice and ClinicalKey. You can self-register for an account here.

Further Placements

  • If you have any further placements with ULHT, LCHS or LPFT and you would like library access again you should inform a ULHT member of library staff who will update your account.

Placements outside Lincolnshire

Health Library & Information Services Directory (HLISD)

If you are on placement outside of Lincolnshire you can find your nearest NHS library at HLISD. HLISD is a comprehensive listing of all health libraries in the UK and Ireland and includes contact details and URL links. Please contact a librar at your placement site to find out if you can use hospital libraries.

 

SCONUL Access scheme

When on placement you may also find it helpful to access an academic library near to you. We participate in the SCONUL Access scheme which offers you access to other higher education libraries in the UK.
