Textbooks provide a thorough overview of a topic. There are a number of advantages to using them:
It takes quite a long time for a book to be published so they don't always contain the most cutting edge research. They do often contain information to help you understand a concept though and are a good place to start your research.
Search books and journal articles using the library website: http://library.lincoln.ac.uk
Search tip: If looking for a specific book, type the author's surname and keywords from the title of the book in the search box and select the 'Find books' option.
Try browsing the shelves for books on a particular topic.

Distance learners can request up to 4 items at a time via the postal loan service. Items can be posted to addresses in the UK only and are sent using Royal Mail Signed For to the address on your Library account.
The Library is unable to post Inter-Library Loan requests outside the UK.
If you use the postal loan service, you are responsible for the books from the point that you receive them until they are checked back into the Library so it is requested that you return them via a postal tracking service.
If you have any questions out postal loans, please email the library.
Before requesting a postal loan, please check if we have an electronic version. We encourage students to use e-books but if this is not feasible please request the item via the Library website.
Please note: books will automatically be sent out in the post to Distance Learners at their home address. If you do not want your books posted you will need to place a reservation and then email holbeachlibrary@lincoln.ac.uk to inform them that you would like to collect or have sent to your work address.
Most modules will have a reading list with details of any core reading you will need. In most cases these will be available via Blackboard and the reading lists tab on the library website.
If you are looking for a specific book search for it via the Library website
The Library website will tell you if a book is available and where you can locate it on the shelf.
Many Agri-food books are held at our NCFM Campus Library in Holbeach, these will be sent to the main Lincoln library campus if you select 'collect from University Library' when reserving.
