A Functional Skills maths exam consists of 2 papers that are sat in one session.
Paper 1 – you are allowed 25 minutes and you are not allowed a calculator. This paper checks your underpinning skills and is worth 15 marks.
Paper 2 – you are allowed one hour and 20 minutes. This paper checks your maths problem solving skills, you are allowed to use a calculator and this paper is worth 45 marks..
Functional maths includes numbers, handling data (mean, median, mode, range, tables, graphs), measure, shape and space (volume, area).
The pass mark is approx. 60% or 33/60 and the marks can be achieved across both papers ie there is no minimum score for either paper. Both of these papers are sat in the same exam session.
