Journals are regular scholarly publications which contain articles on specific subjects. They provide in-depth discussion or analysis of a very specific and narrow subject area.
They are important in academic research for a number of reasons:
An article is published in a scholarly journal and is usually the official announcement. They can require an understanding of the subject so they are the next step from a textbook.
A good way of keeping up-to-date with current research is to subscribe to alerts from your favourite journals.

When you have found an article that you are interested in:
If you find a journal article that you would like to read, as long as the University subscribes to the journal, you should be able to access it. If there is an option to click on access via your institution, select this and then enter your student email address and password when you see the UoL log in window.
