Use the library search to identify what print and electronic resources are available. This searches the catalogue and some, but not all, of the electronic databases subscribed to by the University. The advanced search provides more options to build and refine your search.

More resources can be accessed from the Find menu of the Library website. These include:

  • Subject guides - specific library guides for your subject including databases and relevant websites.
  • Databases - specific electronic databases available from the Library can be searched individually.
  • Electronic journals - check if the Library has electronic access to specific journal titles.
  • Ebooks - Ebook databases available from the Library.

Purchase of new items is currently on hold. It is recommended you search the library website for print and electronic resources to add to reading lists. Reading lists will be used to inform purchasing decisions when funds become available.

If you would like help finding alternative resources available from the library or open access, please contact your Learning and Teaching Librarian.

Setting up new courses

Before the Market Insight, Recruitment, Admissions and Portfolio (MIRAP) process, you will need to discuss any resource implications for the new course with your Learning and Teaching Librarian.

Your Learning and Teaching Librarian will work with you to identify what funding is required for resources to support the course, including setting up and ongoing costs for the first 5 years. Resources you may wish to consider include:

  • Books for teaching, both essential and recommended reading (generally a one-off purchase)
  • Additional journal titles (annual subscription- year on year commitment)
  • Specialist databases (annual subscription - year on year commitment)
In addition you will need to include an annual increment of 5% each year to cover inflation costs. Your Learning and Teaching Librarian will confirm when the costs are approved to be included in the MIRAP documentation.

Your Learning and Teaching Librarian will send through the wording and a table of costs for you to include in the Library section of the MIRAP Business Case.
