References in this privacy policy to we, our and us, etc. are references to The University of Lincoln. References to “website” are references to library.lincoln.ac.uk, the University of Lincoln Library's website and search.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and respecting the confidentiality of information that you provide when you visit the Library. This privacy policy explains what information we may collect about you when you visit the Library, and how the information may be used, and with whom it might be shared.

The University of Lincoln (“the University”) undertakes to process all personal data in accordance with the provisions of General Data Protection Legislation (‘GDPR’)

As required by UK law the University is registered as a data controller under the Act; Registration Number:Z7846984.

This privacy policy forms a part of, and should be read in conjunction with our associate reader policy.

By agreeing to our terms & conditions, you are consenting to the processing of your personal data in accordance with this privacy policy. Any changes to this privacy policy will be published via our website.

The information we collect 

It is possible to use parts of our website without providing any personal data. However, we may automatically collect, for example by the use of cookies (see below), certain information about you when you use our website, including, the IP address of your computer and the dates and times of your visits.

To be able to apply for associate readership, it will be necessary for you to provide personal data, such as your name, address, email and photo ID. Without this information it will not be possible to fulfil your associate reader application.

How we may use this information

We will not disclose any of your personal data collected via our website to any third party other than set out in this privacy policy, or where applicable where you have consented for the University to disclose; unless the University is required to do so by UK law.

Personal data about you collected via the associate reader form and website will be retained for a reasonable period or for the period required by UK law. 

Personal data collected from you via our website will be used to manage the your account. As part of this management the University’s use of personal data includes:

  • Administration of your payment and maintenance of your account with us, including the issue of notifications by email.
  • To contact you about your account.

Cookies

When you visit our website cookies will be sent to the browser on your computer, even if you do not provide us with any personal data. Cookies enable us to compile anonymous, aggregated statistics which help us understand how our online store is used and so how it may be improved.

Cookies do not have the ability to read personal information on your computer and/or to find out any personal information about you. However, you can refuse to accept cookies by modifying the settings in your browser, but this may limit the functionality of, and/or your access to the website.

Data Subject Access Requests

Under the GDPR you are entitled to be told if we hold any of your personal data. If we do hold any personal data about you, you are entitled to be given a description of the data, the purposes the data being processed, and the people (or classes of people) to whom the data may have been disclosed.

Please note that we do charge a small fee for providing this information.
