How we can help you

All University of Lincoln students can use Writing Development.

For one-to-one help, please book an appointment

  • You can make an online appointment or an on-campus appointment by clicking on the relevant option beneath the photo on this page.

  • Please note, you can only book one appointment at a time: please see our terms and conditions below.

  • Online appointments are via MS Teams and you will receive a meeting link in your confirmation email.

  • If you book an on-campus appointment, please report to the ground floor reception desk in the University Library on arrival.

  • We can help at any stage of the writing process, so you don't need to have a finished draft.

  • For further information, please see "how we can help you" and our "terms and conditions" below.

Webinars

Our webinars are open to all University of Lincoln students

Terms and conditions: number of appointments you can book with Writing Development

We hope we can help you to become an independent, self-reliant academic writer. After an appointment with us, please reflect on what you learned about academic writing and apply it to subsequent assignments.

  1. You can book a maximum of four appointments per term:
  • A maximum of four appointments from 1st September to 31st December
  • A maximum of four appointments from 1st January to 30th April
  • A maximum of four appointments from 1st May to 31st August
  1. You can book a maximum of one appointment per week (subject to availability).
  2. You can only book one appointment at a time. If you book more, the second appointment will be cancelled.

If you can't attend an appointment

If you can't attend an appointment, please cancel as soon as possible to give other students the opportunity to book.

We can help you with:
  • Understanding and planning your assignment
  • Assignment structure and paragraph structure
  • Academic argument and critical thinking
  • Introductions and conclusions
  • Strategies for editing and proof-reading
  • Understanding your feedback
  • Revision and exam techniques
You can help by:
  • Using Microsoft Editor to check your grammar and spelling before your appointment. We can't check your spelling and grammar for you, but we can identify areas for further development.
What we don't do:
  • We can't edit or proof-read your work for you (please see proof-reading policy below).
  • We can't check to see if you have met the learning outcomes of your assignment, as this is something you have to do for yourself.
  • We can't help with the subject content of your assignment.
  • We can't help with finding information or referencing, instead you should contact your Academic Subject Librarian.
