Research Services

Inter-library loans

Inter Library Loans (ILLs) are for items that we don't hold in our collections.

Personal Research

If you need a book, chapter, journal article, or conference paper for your personal research that we don't have access to we can try and obtain a copy from another library for you.

The inter-library loan service is open to Staff, PG researchers, PG Taught students, and final year UG dissertation students or those undertaking research project work. A maximum of 20 requests per person can be supplied per academic year.

Please check the inter library loan pages for details of any current restrictions on supply of research materials.

Collaborative Projects

If you are part of a project team and need to request Inter-library loan (ILL) items for multiple team members within the University of Lincoln, please contact your Academic Subject Librarian first. These ILLs must be ordered in a Copyright Fee Paid (CFP) format to comply with copyright law and allow multiple people to view them.

For project teams that include members from other institutions, we can now request a single CFP article that can be shared with researchers working on the same project across multiple institutions. This avoids the need for each institution to obtain their own copy. Note that sharing is limited to staff, postgraduates, or individuals working on the project. Again, please contact your Academic Subject Librarian first to discuss your requirements.

For collaboration purposes only, you can now request as many articles as needed from a journal, as long as they cover the same topic. This is no longer limited to one article per journal issue. Please contact your Academic Subject Librarian to discuss your needs.

Scan and Send

Scan and Send is an electronic document service which allows you to receive scans of book chapters and/or journal articles by email from all three university libraries (University Library, The Ross Library, and NCFM Library)

What can I request via Scan and Send?

  • Any items you request must be currently held in print in our libraries and must not be available electronically via our library collections.

  • You may only request up to one chapter or article from a book or journal issue. These limits are governed by copyright legislation, and you will be required to complete a copyright declaration when making your request.

  • To request a document please complete and submit the appropriate form.

Postal Loans for Researchers

If you are unable to come into the Library, researchers can request up to 4 items at a time via the postal loan service. We will post items to addresses in the UK only using Royal Mail Signed For to the address on your Library account.

Please contact us to arrange postal loans.

If you use the postal loan service, you are responsible for the books from the point that you receive them until they are checked back into the Library so we recommend that you return them via a postal tracking service.

Before requesting a postal loan, please check if we have an electronic version. We encourage you to use e-books but if this is not feasible please request a print copy via the Library website
