Editing strategies

Once you have written your initial draft of an assignment, you will need to spend time editing your work. Allowing enough time for this stage of the process will help you to produce the best possible version of your work. The following are some of the key considerations at the editing stage:

  • Check that you have followed the assignment brief and addressed all the learning outcomes.

  • Ensure that all your points are backed up with evidence which is accurately referenced.

  • Check that your points are presented in a logical order and that you haven't repeated information.

  • Ensure that your wordcount is within the stated limits.

The final stage of the editing process is proof-reading your work thoroughly. The guidance in this section provides tips and tools to help you with this process.
