Information about library resources for online students

Finding information

In today’s digital age, finding information is easy. Asking Google to search for a topic retrieves an abundance of links to various websites and documents. However, it is imperative that you consider the relevance and reliability of these sources. To effectively develop an academic argument, you need to critically evaluate all information retrieved. so, when using Google, ask:

  • Is the site/document authoritative? Who is the author and what authority do they possess?
  • Is the information accurate? Are any claims supported by reliable evidence?
  • Is it impartial? Is the information biased in any way?
  • Is it current? Is the information up to date?
  • Who is the audience? Who is the information aimed at?
  • Is it dependable? Are links from the site working and pointing to other reliable sites?

The library provides access to ebooks, journals, newspapers, statistics, reports, company information and more. When you use the library search, rather than the internet, you can be confident that the results are from reliable academic sources.
