Most modules will have a reading list with details of any core reading you will need. In most cases these will be available via Blackboard and our reading lists.
If an electronic reading list is not available for your module please let me or the module leader know.
RefWorks allows you to store, organise and share your references as well as generating bibliographies and reference lists.
Search Reading Lists for your subject. Please note: not all modules will have a published reading list.
Search for print and electronic books using the library website: http://library.lincoln.ac.uk
It is recommended that you log in to the library website before you begin searching. You can do this by clicking on the 'My Account' tab, selecting 'Students and staff' and entering your university email address (yourstudentIDnumber@students.lincoln.ac.uk) and your Blackboard password.
Search tip: If looking for a specific book, type the author's surname and keywords from the title of the book in the search box.
Information about requesting books can be found here.
Textbooks provide a thorough overview of a topic. There are a number of advantages to using them:
It takes quite a long time for a book to be published so they don't always contain the most cutting edge research. They do often contain information to help you understand a concept though and are a good place to start your research.
As well as the Library you may find resources freely available online. Try the following to find alternative explanations and to corroborate ideas.
When using any online resources check whether the author has the necessary experience to write about the subject authoritatively and that the information is up-to-date.
The Lean Library browser extension makes it simple to access our resources, wherever you are and whenever you need them.
Install the extension and you'll be alerted via a pop-up message if you visit a website we can provide access to. It’s then just a single click to open the site through the library’s systems and get access to any articles, journals and ebooks we have licences for.
The SCONUL Access scheme offers students registered at the University of Lincoln access to other UK higher education libraries.
Most part-time, distance learning and placement students (Band B) will receive access and potentially borrowing rights through the SCONUL Access scheme.
