Lincoln School of Creative Arts

A guide to library resources for students studying in the Lincoln School of Creative Arts

Where can I find sheet music?

You can find sheet music throughout the 780 shelfmark on the second floor of the Library. Exactly where it is will depend on the subject of the music, i.e. vocal music is found at shelfmark 782, while keyboard and other music is at 786.

You can also find some large format sheet music in our oversize section on the third floor so be sure to double-check the shelfmark on the item record for the location.

How do I find scores in the Library?

When searching for sheet music or scores in the Library, make sure you select the 'Find books' option and search for "score*" as a subject search. You can do this by clicking Advanced Search, selecting "Subject" in the drop-down and then typing "score*" in the search box. Adding the asterix (*) will search for items with both "score" and "scores" in their subject headings.

You can also try searching for the title of the piece of music or composer you are looking for and adding AND score*, e.g. "Benjamin Britten AND score*":-

The double speech marks around the composer's name ensures that the search looks for the name in it's entirety making it a more relevant search, rather than searching for all the items with "Benjamin" and all those with "Britten" separately.

Where else can I find sheet music?

You can find more sheet music online in free databases and directories - see the Music websites and Musical Theatre websites for direct links to these.

If you know of any key online databases or websites with free access to sheet music, please let me know so I can add them to this guide to help more students!
