Talis Aspire Reading Lists for Academic Staff

Adding books from the Library website

  1. Go to the Library website
  2. Search for the book you want to add to the reading list
  3. Select the book by clicking on the title so you go into the full record for the book
  4. Click on the Add to my Bookmarks bookmarklet tool in your favourites bar, or click on the Talis Extension icon from the browser extensions menu.

  5. The reading list software will then pop up on your screen with the information to be added to the left. Click on Create and Add to list
  6. Select the relevant list by clicking on the drop-down arrow underneath Add to list
  7. At this point you can decide which section of the list you'd like the book to go in
  8. Set the reading status of the book (Essential, Recommended, Further Reading or Recommended for student purchase)
  9. You can also add a Note to student - e.g. directing them to read a particular chapter or notes on why the text is relevant, etc. You can also add a Note to Library if you want copies purchasing etc.
  10. Click on OK and you will be taken back to the Library website
  11. If you want to view your list, return to the Reading list tab. You will not see your updates until you either click on F5 or the refresh button.

Adding books from Amazon

If you want to add a book to your reading list which isn't in the Library, you can add it from Amazon and inform your Subject Librarian that you would like the Library to purchase copies at the same time.

  1. Find the book on Amazon
  2. Select the book by clicking on the title
  3. Click on the Add to my Bookmarks bookmarklet in your favourites bar, or click on the Talis Extension icon from the browser extensions menu.

  4. The reading list software will pop up on your screen with the information to be added to the left. Click on Create & Add to list
  5. Select the relevant list by clicking on the drop-down arrow underneath Add to list
  6. At this point you can select which section of the reading list the book should go in
  7. Set the reading status of the book (Essential, Recommended, Further Reading, Recommended for student purchase) and you can also add a Note to student (e.g. directing them to read a particular chapter or why the book is relevant)
  8. Add a Note to Library so you can let your Subject Librarian know how many copies to buy, etc.
  9. Click on OK and you will be taken back to Amazon
  10. If you want to view the list, return to the reading list tab. You will not see your updates until you refresh the screen/click on F5.
